Project: The Parlor Trick Print Exchange was open and limited to 75 U.S. Printmakers who created all forms of hand-pulled prints from etchings to screen prints to linocuts. The theme for 2025 was “Escape.”
This one was particularly special — not just because the last one was 2023 so I was happy to have it back, but also because the theme was “ESCAPE” and ya girl does that on the daily with books.
If you’ve known my previous screenprinting work, then you know I’m an absolute wackadoo who will do 10-13 color runs. 😅 I have enjoyed in the past though hearing from people who say, “I can always tell which are yours because of your style!” but I decided to change it up this year — I told myself I’d only do one color. *GASP* I know. And get this: originally, I thought I’d also carve this print instead! (Really throwing you all for a loop!)
I did end up deciding to print it (HUGE shoutout to @alleywayscreenprint who helped me get this on a screen since my little garage studio is no more) and then couldn’t resist: I added a second layer, but it was a little more hidden… 😉🌟 I also had to put a little dazzle on the initial one color layer by mixing some metallic ink into it to make it shimmer ✨
I definitely made a ton of mistakes along the way, but you know what? I had fun. I always love getting to incorporate books and dragons into my art, and that did just this. :’) As I like to say… I’d rather be reading about a corrupt government that is not my own. 🤭 And I’m thankful for books for being my escape during these continuous ~unpredicted times~
